CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY (PIA)--A total of 167 young entrants and out-of-school youths are on-board in the Government Internship Program (GIP) of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE)-10.
These interns are from the 80 barangays in the city.
DOLE-10 Cagayan de Oro City Field Office (CDO FO), in collaboration with the Job Placement Bureau–Public Employment Service Office (JPB-PESO) of Cagayan de Oro and the Association of Barangay Chairmen conducted a program orientation, June 1, 2022 at the covered court of Barangay 40, here.
Punong Barangay Yan Lam Lim was thankful to DOLE-10 for initiating the GIP program, which benefitted a good number of young workers in need of jobs. He encouraged and advised the interns to do their best in the different offices where they would be assigned in order to learn many things.
DOLE-10 Assistant Regional Director Estrella U. Pahalla congratulated the interns for being part of the six-month internship program. She said youth unemployment was quite alarming and DOLE continued to exert efforts in addressing the issue, partnering with different stakeholders. She motivated the interns to be sincere in their commitment to the program so that heads of offices of their assignment would appreciate their work and an opportunity for them to be employed.
Likewise, JPB-PESO Manager Kathleen Kate Sorilla instructed the interns on their roles and responsibilities as representatives of DOLE and PESO in their respective barangay assignments.
DOLE-10 CDO FO Chief Emmanuel G. Toledo highlighted the main objectives of the program on employment generation for the youth and out-of-school youths who wishes to pursue a career in the government service; and the four norms to the interns, (1) make the internship program a learning experience, (2) always strive for excellence as the core value of DOLE, (3) positive attitude is everything; and (4) do your job in a very excellent manner. Discussions focused on the concepts, objectives, administrative procedures and processes of the program.
Contract signing was done after, which officially commenced their six-month contract. Based on the internship agreement, each intern will earn P365 daily wage and be insured with the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) for one year.
The DOLE-GIP provides three to six month’s internship opportunities for high school, technical-vocational, or college graduates who want to pursue a career in public service in either local or national government. (DOLE-10/PIA-10)
