PENREO-LDS spearheads clean-up, tree caring drive

MARAWI CITY, Lanao del Sur—The Provincial Environment, Natural Resources, and Energy (ENRE) conducted a cleanup drive and tree caring activity in line with this year's observance of the Philippine Environment Month and World Environment Day.

The community cleanup drive was conducted along the Sarimanok-Basak Malutlut Highway on June 5 and participated by Barangay officials,  and representatives from the Marawi Police Station and Special Action Forces (SAF) in the province.

With the theme “Tanim Ko, Aalagaan ko," the tree caring activity targeted ornamental trees along the Organization of Industrial, Spiritual, and Cultural Advancement (OISCA)-Marawi Farm. These trees were planted in November 2021 through the Adopt-a-Tree Initiative, a pioneer program of the Ministry of ENRE.

“As environmental champions, we need to promote leadership by example. Hands on dapat, ipakita natin sa ating mga kababayang Meranaw the real essence of public service. The spirit of volunteerism is a must to address environmental problems and strengthen community partnership,” said Provincial ENRE Officer Asmarie Labao.

The cleanup drive and tree caring activity were among the series of activities for the environment month.

A photo exhibit/photo booth will also be open for public viewing during the last week of June to culminate the observance.  (MENRE)
