BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya (PIA) - - At least two communist rebels and a supporter from two upland towns here have surrendered recently to police authorities.
Police Colonel Ranser Evasco, Police Provincial Director identified the inactive communist rebels as Rudy Umalio, 56 of barangay Camandag and supporter Felipe Ananayo of barangay Amweg, both in Ambaguio town and Felipe Avecilla, 52 of barangay Pudi in Kasibu town.
He said Umalio was recruited in 1985 and joined the communist rebels’ operations in Nueva Vizcaya and Ifugao provinces while Avecilla was recruited in 1995 and participated in the communist movement’s activities in several barangays of Kasibu and Dupax Del Norte towns in Nueva Vizcaya and some parts of Quirino Province.
Ananayo on the other hand served as informant of the communist movement’s unit operating in Nueva Vizcaya-Ifugao provinces, Evasco said.
“The two inactive members of the communist movement already left their respective units and are already engaged in farming in their respective barangays until their voluntary surrender,” Evasco said.
He said the surrender of the two former communist rebels and a supporter was a result of their anti-insurgency campaign activities and facilitated by various units of the PNP, Philippine Army (PA) and members of the Barangay Information Network (BIN) through the national government’s End Local Communist Armed Conflict (ELCAC).
