MGB fully supports Bike.Hike.Plant activity

ILOILO CITY (PIA) - The Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) VI fully supported the recent Bike. Hike. Plant activity organized by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Forest Management Bureau (FMB) as part of the celebration of Arbor Day on June 25.

"Planting trees and adopting forests is a vital component of environmental programs required in mining operations.  There is the “Adopt-A-Mining-Forest-Program recognizing the best practices of mining companies in caring for forests," said MGB VI Regional Director Raul A. Laput in an agency's press report.

The DENR FMB has been organizing the Bike. Hike. Plant. in different planting sites all over the country every year to celebrate Arbor Day and the anniversary of the Philippine Forestry Service through action and participation of the local government, bikers, host communities, and the vlogging community to drum-up more support toward initiatives in protecting and preserving forests.

This year, the province of Iloilo, particularly the Maasin Watershed at Brgy. Daja was chosen as the planting site for the Bike. Hike. Plant+ activity. It also recognizes Iloilo City as the “Most Bike-friendly City’ in the Philippines” and a fitting venue for the green ride to kick-off.

DENR-Region 6 director Livino Duran said the bike, hike, plant activity in the province of Iloilo marked the start of the regional celebration of the 159th anniversary of the Philippine Forestry Service.

Bikers and volunteers gathered at the Maasin Watershed where the launching of Iloilo’s “Tanum Iloilo sa Hunyo 2022,” a reforestation program of Governor Arthur Defensor, Jr., also took place.

DENR – FMB extended gratitude to national and local partners, the Provincial Government of Iloilo and Local Government Units of Iloilo City, Pavia, Sta. Barbara, Cabatuan, and Maasin that supported the activity. (JBG/MGB VI/laf/{PIA6-Iloilo)
