DSWD-10 assists 4ID fire, explosion survivors

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY (PIA)--The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office 10 immediately sent relief goods to the survivors displaced by the fire and explosion inside Camp Evangelista, Patag, here.

DSWD Regional Director Mari-Flor A. Dollaga received the request for assistance to the displaced families from the 4th ID Commander Major General Wilbur C. Mamawag. Thus, she instructed the officers of DSWD's Disaster Response Management Division to remain proactive in providing immediate responses to different disasters and calamities, like the fire and explosion incident.

Mamawag requested the assistance early Tuesday, a few hours after a fire broke out in one of the buildings inside the Ammunition Complex, 10th Forward Service Support Unit (FSSU), Army Support Command (ASCOM) of the Philippine Army Camp.

DSWD Field Office 10 provided an initial 100 family food packs to the 100 displaced families who are temporarily staying inside the camp's gymnasium.

The fire caused a series of loud explosions in the city. The said building houses 155mm Howitzer rounds and various small arms ammunition, a press release of the 4th ID stated.

The cause of the incident is yet to be determined, it said. (DSWD-10/PIA-10)
