QUEZON CITY -- As the nation observes World Population Day (WPD) this year 2022 on the 11th of July, the Commission and Population and Development (POPCOM)-MIMAROPA Region commemorates this significant day with two online learning activities in collaboration with partner government and non-government agencies.
This year’s local theme, “110 Milyong Solusyon Tungo sa Pagkamit ng Potensyal ng Bawat Pilipino,” underscores the need to tap the potential of every 110 million Filipinos to achieve not only the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals but also the Philippine Population and Development goal. The WPD celebration ensures that everyone is regarded.
“The true essence of the WPD celebration should radiate from the people more than the population, that is why we have organized two webinars that tailored fit to the scenario of the region and shed light on the importance of partnership and collaborations to harness solutions on the pressing population and development issues,” POPCOM-MIMAROPA Regional Director Reynaldo O. Wong points out.
Two consecutive webinars on July 12 and 13 emphasize the importance of barangays as the building blocks of local development that leaves no one behind.
“In a region 3.2 million strong, the possibilities are interminable and the potential for stability is unbroken. Let us put every MiMaRoPan at the core of development,” RD Wong added.
The Governing Council of the United Nations Development Program decided to set every 11th of July as World Population Day in 1990 when the world’s human population hit an estimated 5 billion on that day in the year 1987.
