TUBOD, Lanao del Norte (PIA)--Some 1,000 validated livestock and poultry farmers are set to receive veterinary equipment from the Provincial Veterinary Office.
During a launching ceremony on February 14, 2022, 30 units of egg incubators with 250 egg capacity were distributed to 7 municipalities including Sultan Naga Dimaporo (1), Kolambugan (1), Lala (11), Kauswagan (2), Kapatagan (6), Baroy (5) and Tubod (4). Meanwhile, over 414 beneficiaries from ten municipalities namely SND,Baroy, Lala, Maigo, Kapatagan, Linamon, Kolambugan, tubod, Sapad and Kauswagan received 50kg bags of Hog feeds.
This project is under the 20% Development Funds for CY 2021 amounting to Php 17,400,000, which aims to provide Farming-Related Livelihoods for Recovery and Rehabilitation of Livestock and Poultry Sector in the province that was greatly affected by the pandemic.
"With Governor Angging's directive and unwavering support of all members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan, we were able to constantly allocate budget for our farmers and cooperatives every year to help them uplift their lives amidst the crisis," SP Board Member Reinario Bihag, Chairman of Committee on Agriculture said.
The project components include Slaughter Goat Production, Carabao Production, Beef Cattle Production, Home-based Free Range 'Manok Pinoy' & Egg Production, and Veterinary equipment and Supplies.
Governor Imelda 'Angging' Quibranza-Dimaporo emphasized the importance of agriculture in rehabilitating and enhancing the economy.
"The real wealth is in agriculture, but it's so sad to think that only a few of our young people today are interested in it," she said.
Aside from the Municipality of Maigo, the validated beneficiaries were from the Green sectors who were not among those directly affected by the spread of African Swine Fever.
Furthermore, to prevent the re-spread of ASF in the community, Dr. Fritzie Paler-Provido, the Acting Provincial Veterinarian, gave tips to all hog raisers participants.
"Let's be more responsible in taking care of our animals. Let's not be complacent. If we observe something wrong, it's best to report it immediately to the responsible offices to address it accordingly," she said. (PIO-LDN/PIA-10/Lanao del Norte)
