DILG-10 to host orientation course for newly-elected officials

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY (PIA)--In support of the Newly-Elected Officials (NEOs) on leadership and management capacities of their local government towards better services and performance, the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG)-10 will host the conduct of NEOs Orientation Course: Primed Leaders for Renewed Local Governance at Limketkai Luxe Hotel, here, August 3-4.

The program course aims to provide harmonized and holistic capacity development interventions to assist NEOs in effectively navigating their first 100 days in office, and explore strategic and transformational actions to achieve development towards the realization of self-reliant and productive communities.

“If we want to effectively deliver our platforms during the election period, we must ensure that in the first place, we enhance our capabilities in order to deliver our promises,” said DILG-10 Regional Director Arnel M. Agabe.

He said DILG will always be supporting the officials during their terms, may it by providing administrative and technical assistance.

The participants will consist of both newly-elected and re-elected local chief executives, (LCEs), vice governors, vice mayors, and members of the Sanggunian from Regions 9, 10, and CARAGA.

As guest of honor, the new DILG Secretary, Lawyer Benjamin C. Abalos, Jr., will be gracing the event. As such, during his opening message in an orientation for the NEOs in Clark, Pampanga, he stated that, “As local chief executives of their respective LGUs, governors and mayors should always think outside the box and explore ways and means on how to get things done with the help of the private sector and other stakeholders for the benefit of their constituents.”

Further, also expected to attend in the said activity are DILG Regional Directors of 9 and CARAGA, League of Municipalities of the Philippines (LMP) officials, Local Government Academy (LGA) officers, national government agency (NGA) regional directors, members of the press, and others concerned.

Highlights of the upcoming NEO orientation course will include: (1) the review on salient features of the Local Government Code and the duties, responsibilities, accountabilities and key attributes of good local governance;

(2) The identification of new approaches and tools to improve adaptability and resilience, and revitalize the economy while traversing the COVID-19 era and the constantly changing times;

And (3) the adaptation of a leadership skill set to advance transformational and strategic actions towards improving management systems, structures and processes for efficient and equitable delivery of public goods and services.

NEOs will be tasked to formulate the first 100 days Action Plan and Executive Agenda to efficiently jumpstart the critical days of office and proactively plan to enhance leadership and management capacities of LGU towards excellent performance.

The NEO Orientation Course is organized by the DILG, through the LGA, in partnership with the LMP, and the DILG Local Governance Resource Centers (LGRRC). (DILG-10/PIA-10)
