MATI CITY, Davao Oriental- the Department of Agriculture - Philippine Rice Research Institute (DA-PhilRice) congratulated the Provincial Government of Davao Oriental for achieving 95% of its delivery and distribution targets of rice seeds for the 2022 Wet Season.
DA-PhilRice expressed such recognition in a letter recently sent to Provincial Governor Corazon N. Malanyaon who immediately met with Provincial Agriculture Office headed by Dr. Edito B. Sumile to deliver the news.
The PAGRO team reiterated commitment to support the Governor’s programs to increase productivity, boost the income and welfare of the local farmers, and provide food for Davao Oriental households.
Governor Malanyaon was set to receive the Certificate of Appreciation during the PhilRice RCEF Seed and Extension Programs Midyear Review, August 5, Friday via Zoom.
The recognition was extended to the PLGU of Davao Oriental for its exceptional efforts in implementing the Rice Competitiveness Enhancement Fund (RCEF) Seed and Extension Program 2022, which bids to boost rice production in the country.
For the wet season of 2022, the province has delivered 8,647 bags of rice, exceeding its target of 8,500 bags.
This covers some 8,000 hectares of rice fields in the rice-producing municipalities in the province, which include the towns of Banaybanay, Lupon, Governor Generoso, Caraga, Baganga, Cateel, and Boston.
The DA-PhilRice lauded the province for complementing its RCEF Program, which focuses on ‘rice farm mechanization; inbred rice seed development, propagation, and promotion; expanded rice credit assistance; and rice extension services, among other interventions for rice farming.
The Governor noted the recognition as in line with the food sufficiency and security priorities of her administration “as it plays a crucial part in the province’s economy and improving the lives of marginalized farmers”.
She also counted agriculture among the crucial keys in addressing the province’s poverty incidence and in providing the food requirement of Davao Oriental residents. (from Mark Oliver Alvite of PIO Davao Oriental/jmda)
