Governor’s dog joins training of canine unit

MATI CITY, Davao Oriental-- The one-year-old golden retriever dog of Provincial Governor Corazon N. Malanyaon recently joined the visit of  Davao Oriental Provincial Explosive Ordnance  Division (EOD) and Canine Unit (PECU) officers and personnel in their courtesy call to the Governor.

Her golden retriever dog named “Dana” will soon be graduating from her five-month basic obedience training for K9, facilitated by the PECU.

During the courtesy call, the group discussed with the Governor the urgent needs of their unit, including a building to serve as an office and a facility to house the kennels and serve as a training space for the K9 dogs.

In support to the tourism sector, the PECU officials reported to the Governor their plan to train tourist dogs, which will help in providing security, as well as, serve as tourists attraction.

The PECU is an attached unit under the Philippine National Police. It serves as an augmentation security force.

Specifically, PECU staff members are mandated to respond to bomb threats and provide technical support to PNP offices or units in special operations or searches of bombs and explosives, among others.  (from Karen L. Deloso |Photos by Eden Jhan Licayan/jmda)
