MATI CITY, Davao Oriental--- Davao Oriental Police Provincial Office (DOPPO) recently sent a team of police officers to compete in the World Police and Fire Games (WPFG) 2022 in Rotterdam, Netherlands.
Part of the competing team delegation were Police Chief Master Sergeant Angelica Gayta, Police Staff Sergeant Jonathan Pido and Patrolman Archill Cobrado.
Gayta competed with top-tier European swimmers in the 3.2 km Open Water Swimming (OWS) for Women as the only Asian woman participant in this competition; Pido claimed the silver medal in the Men’s 3.2-kilometer open water swimming event, and Cobrado competed in the table tennis age category 18+ Division A event.
OWS is considered one of the extreme sports events in the WPFG wherein swimmers had to deal with the freezing cold waters, long course of the race, and strong undercurrents.
“I am happy to finish the course earlier than I expected and without injuries or muscle cramps! I praise and thank God for the protection and strength and to all of you for your love and support,” PMS Gayta in her Facebook post.
Other Police Regional Office XI representatives also bagged medals in various events.
“The World Police and Fire Games is an international sporting event for police, fire, customs, and correction services wherein thousands of competitors from 70 countries participate to compete in 63 sports, including CrossFit, athletics, water polo, kite surfing, and the ultimate firefighter.”
“The World Police and Fire Games 2022 use sports to establish encounters between first responders. In addition, the aim is to stimulate sportsmanship and generate respect for all those emergency workers.” (PIO Davao Oriental/ jmda)
