CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY (PIA)--To promote immediate and effective communication of programs and services, the Department of Science and Technology (DOST)-10 conducted a Straight and Feature News Writeshop, October 7, at The VIP Hotel, here.
The activity dubbed “Writing for DOST: How to Effectively Write Straight and Feature News Article” was facilitated by Recthie T. Paculba of the Philippine Information Agency (PIA)-10. Select DOST-10 staff assigned in communicating program and project results, services, and agency activities participated in the writeshop.
The speaker emphasized the significance of writing as a way to express rather than a way to impress. She relayed that in writing government news, all information must be accurate and relevant thereby empowering readers to act on problems affecting their community and encouraging trust and cooperation among citizens.
During the activity, all the participants drafted news articles and were able to receive feedback from the facilitator and co-participants. “I feel more equipped in effectively writing press releases and success stories for future projects and events,” said Rogelyn Calago of DOST - Misamis Occidental.
The Writeshop is part of the “Managing Science and Technology Information and Knowledge Mentoring Sessions” aimed at developing the capacities of DOST-10’s human resource in verbal and visual communication, in-house documentation, and knowledge management and process documentation.
Through the writeshop, the staff are expected to be able to write effective news and feature articles that highlight DOST’s services to the public. DOST-10 aims to breed effective and efficient communicators that could convey the agency’s mandate and accomplishments to a wider audience. (Ella Nadela/DOST-10/PIA-10)
