The Army's 2nd Infantry Division discovered the remains of an NPA member in Bansud, Oriental Mindoro on Thursday, October 28, 2022.
Joint forces of the 76th Infantry Battalion and PNP personnel were patrolling at Sitio Labo in Barangay Conrazon when they discovered a cadaver of a suspected NPA member. Rebel returnees and the family have identified the body to be their son, Romer Orosa Jr., 24-years old, squad leader of NPA platoon in Mindoro under the Southern Tagalog Regional Party Committee. Orosa belonged to the Hananuo Tribe of Mindoro and was a resident of Sitio Imperial in Barangay Naibuan, San Jose.
Orosa was recruited by the communist terrorist group at the age of 9. He became a full NPA member at 18 and was among the casualties in an encounter between the rebels and the soldiers on July 2021 where he was left behind by his comrades. According to his parents, he had wished to return to the folds of the law to be reunited with his family
but he was stopped by his comrades.
In a statement, 2ID Commander Maj. Gen. Roberto S. Capulong expressed his condolences to the family of Orosa and urged the few remaining rebels to surrender before they suffer the same fate fighting for a worthless cause. Currently, Orosa’s remains are being prepared to be turned over to his family for proper burial.
"We share the grief of the families and loved ones of Romer Orosa. We condemn the violation of human rights committed by the CPP-NPA-NDF in the recruitment of the youth and our indigenous people to take up arms for their arms struggle and leaving them to die for their selfish plans," Maj. Gen. Capulong said in his statement. (2ID, PA)
