MANILA -- Department of Budget and Management (DBM) Secretary Amenah F. Pangandaman assured that the DBM will ensure the prudent and judicial management of government resources to secure a sustainable future for the country.
Secretary Pangandaman made the statement before the members of the Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants (PICPA) at its 77th Annual National Convention on Thursday, 24 November 2022.
“We commit to ensuring the prudent and judicial management of government resources by funding and prioritizing the programs, activities, and projects that will benefit all Filipinos. Through this, we hope to help realize the sustainable future that all of you have been envisioning for the country,” Secretary Pangandaman said.
Themed, "Play it Forward: Securing a Sustainable Future," the conference brings around 4,500 Filipino CPAs together from different parts of the country and of the world for learning and fellowship.
In her message, Secretary Pangandaman discussed the government’s development plan for sustainable growth.
This includes the enhancement of bureaucratic efficiency, which has been prioritized in the 2023 Proposed National Budget.
Investments in information and communications technology were likewise pursued to transform and digitalize government processes, records, and databases through e-governance. To do this, some Php 12.47 billion of the national budget was proposed for the ICT and digitalization programs and projects.
Secretary Pangandaman also reiterated that the DBM will fast-track the development and implementation of the Budget and Treasury Management System or BTMS, which seeks to record real-time information on financial transactions across government agencies from purchase to payment.
Recognizing the vital role CPAs play in society, Secretary Pangandaman stressed that they contribute to the large-scale growth of the country.
“Schools and hospitals, among other institutions, shape our lives. Your expertise and service have been guarding these institutions. Your analysis, advice, and interpretations help leaders and managers make informed decisions. Your role in our public financial management system contributes to building our nation,” the Budget Secretary said. (DBM)
