Oro's economy is on its way to recovery, Uy says

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY (PIA)--The economy of Cagayan de Oro is recovering, albeit slowly, City Mayor Rolando "Klarex" Uy said, following the numerous visits from investors as well as the opening of several businesses in the city.

Just last week, a US-based business process outsourcing (BPO) company expressed keen interest in expanding its business operations here in Cagayan de Oro.

Ben Roberts, president of OfficePartner360 (OP360), paid a courtesy visit to the city mayor's office to discuss the status of the ICT businesses in Cagayan de Oro.

"Mu-invest gyud siya (Ben Roberts) kay gani duna na sila’y gitan-aw nga lugar nga angay niyang sugdan ang iyang patigayon sa dili madugay," Uy said during an interview.

Uy said one of the potential sites the BPO company looked into is the Georgetown Cybermall on R.N. Pelaez Blvd., near Liceo de Cagayan University.

Last Friday, Virtue, a luxury bar for young professionals who want to unwind, meet up with friends, and socialize, opened on the second floor of SM Northwing.

Gracing the opening and blessing of the bar were Uy, City Councilors Imee Moreno and Jay Roa Pascual, City Information Office Head Ivy Guantero, and SM City Cagayan de Oro Mall Manager Bernadette Flores.

"Dako pud ning timailhan nga ang atong ekonomiya sa dakbayan, sa hinay-hinay, aduna na'y paglaom sa pagbangon (This is a big sign that our economy in the city is slowly showing hope of recovery)," Uy said. (CDO CIO/PIA-10)
