Boac, Marinduque – The Graduate Diploma in Cultural Education (GDCE) Mimaropa Batch 3 has reached the completion of Level 1 Cultural Education last December 18. There were at least 33 Teacher-Scholars from the region along with peers from the National Capital Region and Calabarzon. Through the endowment from National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) Philippine Cultural Education Program (PCEP), Marinduque State College was able to obtain accreditation this year and liquidation of the previous batch 2 2020-21.
The qualifying test was administered with the Department of Education (DepEd) Mimaropa last July 22 and the results were released the following month which yielded at most 40 qualified applicants and neighboring divisions in NCR, Calabarzon and Bicol. Then an orientation program was held by September 12 and the online enrollment ensued from September 14 to 16. The first CulEd 200: Foundation and Pedagogy of Cultural Education started in September 17 given the delays, adjustments and externalities. Meanwhile, CulEd 201 – Review of Philippine History and Heritage started on time with Prof. Michael Charleston Chua. Then Dr. Mary Bulaong succeeded with the CulEd 202 – Cultural Diversity and Languages of the Philippines between October 29 and November 20. Finally, the last CulEd course of Level 1 is CulEd 203 – Philippine Arts under the able hands of DepEd Supervisor Melandro Pascual from Nov. 26 until December 18.
MSC President Dr. Diosdado Zulueta explained, “Initially MSC GDCE started with Marinduque teacher-scholars through 2018-19 with the first batch. The succeeding MSC GDCE batch not only bare witness of the global pandemic from 2020-21 with teacher-scholars from Mindoro and Romblon in addition to Marinduque to cover almost the entire Mimaropa region. The current MSC GDCE batch encompasses not only Mimaropa but also includes the National Capital Region, Bicol and Calabarzon region with 33 teacher-scholars from Marinduque, Palawan, Mindoro and Quezon.”
GDCE is a post-baccalaureate course, 24 unit with 8 courses with the duration of two semesters with the grants from NCCA PCEP and MSC with DepEd as conduit institutions in Mimaropa. MSC is celebrating its 70th foundation while the Marinduque capital town of Boac is commemorating its quadricentennial of reestablishment since the founding of Monserrat de Marinduque.
