First safety and skills training center in Palawan inaugurated

CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro -- Palawan-based mining and mineral processing companies Rio Tuba Nickel Mining Corporation (RTNMC) and Coral Bay Nickel Corporation (CBNC) inaugurated on January 30 the Safety and Skills Training Center (SSTC) at the RTN Compound in Brgy. Rio Tuba, Bataraza, Palawan-- described as the first of its kind in the province and in the local mining industry.

Officials from the companies, Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) MIMAROPA Region, and stakeholders participated the ceremony which also highlighted a tree-planting activity at the plantation area near the training center.

Started in 2017 and funded through the companies’ Social Development and Management Program (SDMP) and Corporate Social Responsibility, the training center aims to provide a competitive venue for skills trainings of the companies’ stakeholders and employees.

The facility was initially planned to become one of the regular technical vocational training centers in Palawan and was further modified to incorporate the element of safety providing state-of-the-art industrial safety tools and equipment.

The SDMP is a comprehensive five-year plan of the contractor/permit holder with the goal of implementing community programs and projects in consultation and in partnership with the host and neighboring communities towards the sustained improvement of their living standards. (MGB MIMAROPA)
