202 Oro interns deployed to DOLE-10 partner agencies, 80 brgys

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY (PIA)--Prior to deployment, a total of 202 interns participated in a two-day Government Internship Program (GIP) orientation conducted by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE)-10 Cagayan de Oro City Field Office in partnership with the Job Placement Bureau-Public Employment Service Office (JPB-PESO) and the Community Affairs Department, January 23–24, at Ultracraft, Macanhan, Barangay Carmen, and Barangay 24 Covered Court, here.

The goal of the two-day event was to explain to the interns what the program was for and what their roles, responsibilities, and duties would be in their offices and areas.

They will assist government personnel, provide work registration in the barangay, disseminate job vacancies in the area, and refer the job seekers to JPB-PESO and the DOLE-10 Cagayan de Oro City Field Office (CDO FO) for employment allocation.

DOLE-10 Cagayan de Oro Provincial Field Office Head Emmanuel G. Toledo said the office has laid out two barometers for hiring and selection of GIPs: attitude and excellence.

"I believe that as public servants, we must perform our job in an excellent way, as the public deserves it," Toledo said.

JPB-PESO Manager Kathleen Kate D. Sorilla and Rosendo Israel, Assistant Director of the 1st Congressional District Office Roberto Amplayo Jr., Head of the City Community Affairs and Development Department (CCADD) Cyrile D. Ranile, and DOLE-10 CDO Supervising Labor and Employment Officer Akisa G. Boriongan were also at the event.

There were 202 interns who attended the orientation and were informed of the entire program, its requirements, and the qualifications of the interns.

These interns will be sent to partner offices of DOLE and to the Local Government of Cagayan de Oro, which has 80 barangays.

The Government Internship Program is a three- to six-month internship program that enables young people ages 18 to 30 who are high school graduates or technical-vocational graduates, college graduates, and unemployed youth to pursue careers in the public service. It attempts to develop a skilled and competitive workforce and serves as a training ground for upcoming government workers. (DOLE-10/PIA-10)
