Naawan traffic accident results in untimely deaths of PRO-10 personnel

NAAWAN, Misamis Oriental (PIA)--At least eight people were killed in a car crash while 24 were injured and taken to different hospitals in Cagayan de Oro City, Misamis Oriental, and Iligan City after a tire on a wing van burst and collided with two vans carrying members of the Philippine National Police (PNP)-10 when it attempted to overtake during traffic in P-11, Barangay Maputi, Naawan, February 11.

An initial report based on the Naawan Municipal Police Station indicated that the accident occurred at around 9:25 a.m. and involved three vehicles, which revealed that the Mitsubishi Fuso was moving towards Cagayan de Oro City while the two Nissan Urvan vehicles were moving towards Iligan City in the opposite direction. The two Nissan Urvans were hired vehicles loaded with PNP personnel and students of SLC and JLC at Regional Training Center (RTC)-10, Patag.

"We mourn the demise of our colleagues who perished in this accident. We also pray for the speedy recovery of those passengers who sustained serious/minor injuries. The entire MORPPO and I share with the bereaved families the feelings of great loss at this time of deep sorrow," Misamis Oriental Provincial Police Office (MORPPO) Director Gonzalo Villamor Jr. shared.

Villamor encouraged all motorists to always check "BLOWBAGETS," which stands for "Battery, Lights, Oil, Water, Brake Air, Gas, Engine, Gas, Engine, Tire, and Self," before driving and to always observe traffic rules and safety at all times to avoid loss of lives and properties.
