CALAMBA, Misamis Occidental (PIA)--A clash occurred between the 10th Infantry Battalion (10IB) and the Guerilla Front Sendong (NPA) in the hinterlands of Calamba, Misamis Occidental, March 26.
During the encounter, one NPA member was killed and another was wounded, while the troops confiscated weapons and subversive documents.
Following the clash, Joel Tomas, an active member of the Guerilla Front Sendong, was abandoned by his comrades after sustaining a gunshot wound; however, the 10th Infantry Battalion provided him with the necessary medical aid and assistance and took him to the nearest hospital, where he is currently in stable condition.
LTC Jose Andre Monje, who is in charge of the 10IB, thanked the locals for telling him where the rebels were and what they were doing to get money from people in the area.
The unit has reinforced the engaged troops to pursue the fleeing enemies, and additional forces have been deployed in the affected communities to ensure the safety and security of the local populace.
Meanwhile, 102nd Brigade Commander Col. Elmer B. Suderio commended the 10th Infantry Battalion for their diligent and persistent efforts in tracking and engaging the remaining NPA formations in Misamis Occidental.
He told them to keep doing what they were doing to bring peace and prosperity to the area. He also called upon the remaining NPA members to surrender their arms and join mainstream society.
Commander of JTF ZAMPELAN MGen Antonio Nafarrete, appealed and kept on reminding the remaining members of GF SENDONG to surrender, assuring them that they would receive essential aid and medical attention through the Provincial Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (PTF-ELCAC).
