MGB MIMAROPA highlights stories of women in the minerals industry during the 2023 National Women’s Month Celebration

CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro -- The stories of women in mining communities and their commendable initiatives took spotlight in this year’s National Women’s Month celebration of the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) MIMAROPA Region, March 24, at Ramada by Wyndham Manila Central in Santa Cruz, Manila.

Spearheaded by the Gender and Development (GAD) Focal Point System (FPS)  of  the  MGB  MIMAROPA Region,  the GAD  activity  centered  on  the initiatives of the minerals industry in relation to this year’s theme “WE for Gender Equality and Inclusive Society.”

During the first part of the program, the GAD FPS presented the 2023 National Women’s Month campaign theme, and the GAD-related accomplishments of the MGB MIMAROPA Region for CY 2022.

MGB MIMAROPA Regional Director Glenn Marcelo C. Noble and the GAD FPS headed by Mine Management Division Chief Engr. Ellengrace R. Galiste led the Pledge of Support as the participants’ commitment to continuously push for gender-responsive programs and services, strengthen the implementation of the Magna Carta of Women, empower women and girls, and promote inclusive society.

The GAD FPS also screened its GAD series “HerStory” featuring personal storiesof women about their dreams, passion, and life outside work; and “WeCanBeEquALL” tackling gender stereotypes and how everyone can push for equality and inclusivity.

The program also highlighted the stories of women in mining communities of Palawan-based Coral Bay Nickel Corporation (CBNC),   Graymont   (Philippines)   Incorporated   (GPI),   and   Ipilan   Nickel Corporation (INC), including the companies’ initiatives in response to gender issues in their companies and host and neighboring communities.

The program concluded with the awarding of plaques of recognition to GPI and CBNC for promoting diversity in their respective workplaces, and pushing for initiatives in climate and disaster resiliency, particularly in environment and natural resources.
