USTP president stresses role of renewable energy in sustainable dev’t

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY (PIA) --University of Science and Technology of the Southern Philippines (USTP) System President Dr. Ambrosio B. Cultura II emphasized the importance of renewable energy resources during the ATU-Net World Engineering Day 2023 (ATU-Net WED 2023) of Asia Technological University Network (ATU-Net) on March 6.

The system president served as one of the guest speakers of ATU-Net WED 2023 which has an event theme, “Celebrating Engineers: Towards Sustainable Innovation in Engineering.”

He said that renewable energy resources such as solar, wind, hydropower, geothermal, and biomass energy are important for sustainable development.

He also shared the advantages and how these can be utilized through Distributed Energy Systems, which are small-scale power generation technologies used to provide an alternative to or an enhancement of the traditional electric power system.

The USTP System President also stressed how interdisciplinary innovations can present the potential for sustainability. To him, end-users should understand the role of other disciplines in complementing fields of Engineering to create Innovations and Technology Solutions with a meaningful impact on society.

He said that it is through Innovations and Technology Solutions that USTP established service centers and innovation centers, and institutes that enable the university to directly respond to emerging challenges.
