CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY (PIA)--The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE)-10 OIC-Regional Director Estrella Pahalla announces the partial counting of 5,891 jobs available, as of this writing, to jobseekers, May 1, at the 4th and 5th floors of SM Downtown Premier during the 121st Labor Day celebration, as part of continuing economic and employment recovery efforts of the country.
For Region 10, the activity is coordinated with the Local Government Unit (LGU)-Cagayan de Oro (CDO) Jobs Placement Bureau-Public Employment Service Office (PESO) for the local job vacancies and through the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA REU)-10, or now the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW), for the overseas job openings.
Pahalla said the celebration also includes participation of the Department of Agriculture (DA-X) for the Kadiwa ng Pangulo para sa Manggagawa, May 1–5, also at SM Downtown Premier; a livelihood fair by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI)-10; employment opportunities for the tourism based industry sector by the Department of Tourism (DOT)-10; skills demonstration and Technical-Vocational Education and Training (TVET) registration by the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA)10;
Provision of rice sold at least cost by the National Food Authority (NFA)-10; low-cost housing for low-paid workers by the National Housing Authority (NHA)-10; other services through the LGUs by the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG)-10 through LGU-CDO-PESO; and provision of the venue for the overall Labor Day activities by the SM Downtown Premier as one official partner.
Further, one highlight is the distribution of government assistance to workers in the informal sector (WIS) and other vulnerable workers in the region.
Pahalla said there were 3,201 available vacancies confirmed by 69 local employers, including the government, and 2,690 verified overseas jobs from five (5) POEA-licensed and accredited recruitment agencies. The figure continues to increase, as does the number of participating employers.
Top local job vacancies are production workers (284 vacancies); service crew (262); customer service representatives/call center agents (240); drivers (184); insurance entrepreneurs (100); coordinators (100); collectors (100); and disbursement officers (100).
Likewise, overseas job postings are in the United Kingdom and the United Arab Emirates. Top vacancies are registered nurses (1,880); utilities (168); caregivers (146); registered radiographers (95); and electricians (49).
Pahalla said the job fair is also in partnership with DOT-10, boosting employment facilitation in the tourism sector, which was one of the most badly hit during the pandemic.
Moreover, the DOLE, as the lead agency, will also offer a one-stop shop of services by the DOLE Regional Coordinating Council member agencies such as the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) and DMW; the Regional Conciliation Mediation Board (RCMB); the National Labor Relations Commission (NLRC) 8th Division and Regional Arbitration Branch; the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board (RWTPB); Employees Compensation Commission (ECC); the Occupational Safety and Health Center (OSHC); TESDA; the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC); and POEA.
Another highlight is the free documentation for the first-time jobseekers pursuant to Republic Act No. 11261 or the "Act waiving government fees and charges in the issuance of documents required in the application for employment of first-time jobseekers" through the Regional Line Agencies such as: (1) the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI-X) for clearance;
(2) Social Security System (SSS) membership application; Philhealth Corp. membership application; Philippine Statistical Authority (PSA) for birth or marriage certificate; Philippine National Police (PNP) for police clearance; Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) for Tax Identification Number (TIN) application; Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) for free legal services; and National Housing Authority (NHA) for housing queries and services.
Pahalla reminds our first-time applicants that they may avail of the benefits only once and for one copy of every document or transaction only. They should be Filipino citizens who are actively seeking employment for local or overseas jobs, as certified by the barangay of their residence. The law does not cover application fees for taking a professional licensure examination, a Philippine passport, authentication of documents from the Department of Foreign Affairs, a career service examination, or securing driver’s licensing at the Land Transportation Office.
According to Pahalla, there are no unusual requirements for job seekers. She highlighted their preparedness for the interview and the presentation of documents that may be asked, which include but are not limited to transcripts of records, diplomas, certificates of employment, certificates of training, and others. Jobseekers simply need to meet the basic requirements of prospective employers by being themselves and showcasing their full package of readiness as soon-to-be members of the labor force.
To expedite registration, applicants can now pre-register online through the link https://jobfair.dolexportal. com/ and inform the registration area staff if such is accomplished earlier.
