MARAWI CITY (PIA)—A total of 65 overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) received financial assistance during the 41st founding anniversary celebration of the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration in the Bangsamoro region (OWWA-BARMM), May 3.
The assistance aims to provide immediate financial aid to returning OFWs as a start-up or additional capital for livelihood projects, as well as support for those who have suffered difficulties and are victims of natural or man-made disasters.
A total of P705,000 was distributed to 54 distressed OFWs under the Balik Pinas, Balik Hanapbuhay (BPBH) Program, while another P60,000 was given to 10 qualified beneficiaries under Humanitarian Assistance for Saudi Claims.
OWWA-BARMM also gave P220,000 to an OFW's dependent as death insurance.
OWWA-BARMM Regional Director Habib Malik, BARMM Senior Minister Abunawas Maslamama, and Deputy Minister of Labor and Employment Tommy Nawa led the said distribution.
Malik said his office will continue to provide services to former OFWs and active members of OWWA. As such, he encouraged OFWs to avail themselves of the services offered by OWWA-BARMM and seek help if they encounter difficulties.
Senior Minister Maslamama emphasized that the Government of the Day is working closely with OWWA to provide relevant programs for OFWs. "We work together with OWWA to ensure that all necessary support is provided to Bangsamoro OFWs in their pursuit to improve the socio-economic condition of their respective families," he said.
Aside from the distribution of financial aid, the 41st anniversary celebration of OWWA-BARMM also included a general orientation on the programs and services of OWWA as well as migration realities.
