OROQUIETA CITY, MISAMIS OCCIDENTAL (PIA)--The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE)-10, through its Misamis Occidental Provincial Field Office (MisOcc PFO), released a total of P200,000 worth of DOLE Integrated Livelihood Emergency Employment Program (DILEEP) to the 22 Upper Rizal Small Coconut Farmers Association, May 5, at Upper Rizal Covered Court, this city.
The Local Government of Oroquieta said the 22 members of the Coconut Farmer’s Association have potential in handling their finances as they have generated a decent profit for 13 years and invested in various small enterprises. They are one of the most active organizations in the city. Given their remote location and the necessity to supplement the economic status of their increasing families, the LGU assisted them in requesting from DOLE that they be granted a general merchandise project to cater to their everyday needs that are within their grasp.
According to Association President Orlando P. Cabatan, the initiative would improve rural residents' access to essential products and commodities because it is cumbersome for them to drive great distances only to buy at a grocery store. The initiative focuses on the community's fundamental requirements, including but not limited to grains, groceries, and animal feed.
President Cabatan expressed his appreciation to DOLE and stated that they will undertake frequent project assessments and attend capacity trainings, seminars, and meetings that aim to better prepare them for the business.
Acosta further hopes that the recipients' means of subsistence will eventually develop and become successful, as this will not only benefit their association but also their families' means of subsistence.
DOLE-10 MisOcc PFO Provincial Director Ebba Borbon-Acosta spearheaded the activity, which was attended by City Mayor Lemuel Acosta, who was represented by his Executive Assistant Gian Echavez and Councilor Aileen M. Taladua, who is also the Livelihood Committee Chair. (DOLE-Misamis Occidental/PIA-10/Misamis Occidental)
