LGU-Laak, GNIP ink MOA for banana nursery, tissue culture laboratory

DAVAO DE ORO (PIA) -- To establish Banana Nursery and Tissue Culture Laboratory at Laak Community Development Project, the Local Government Unit of Laak, through Mayor Antonio L. Libuangan signed a Memorandum of Agreement with the Good Neighbors International Philippines (GNIP) at MSARDZ Building, Poblacion Laak, May 17.

The establishment of the special project aims to integrate the three dimensions of sustainable development: the economic, social, and environmental aspect by jointly addressing food security and climate challenges through the establishment of an enhanced Climate Smart Field School on Banana Production.

The agreement covers the duration of project implementation in the targeted communities. Under this, GNIP, through Laak Field Office, will provide a fund and facilitate the purchasing of additional equipment and supplies needed in the banana tissue culture laboratory, and will provide funds and facilitate the construction of greenhouse to be utilized as a banana nursery, among others.

LGU-Laak, on the other hand, will subsequently provide a facility that will be utilized as banana tissue culture laboratory, take the lead in the implementation of Climate Smart Field School on Banana Production and facilitate the capacity building training for the banana farmers, among others.

Libuangan extended appreciation to GNIP for being a steady patron of LGU-Laak in improving the lives of Laakeňos through the provision of different community development programs and he looked forward to having greater collaborations in the future.

On behalf of the LGU Laak, Libuangan signed the MOA whille and Country Director Mr. Jae Choon Lee signed on behalf of GNIP.

Witnessing the event were Sangguniang Bayan member Luchayhua L. Limlao, Provincial Agriculturist Jaime Anter, Municipal Agriculturist Christopher L.
