Art exhibit on cultural heritage opens

DAVAO ORIENTAL (PIA) -- An art exhibit on cultures and traditions of the Indigenous Peoples (IPs) of Davao Oriental has opened, May 22, at the new SP Session Hall building inside the Mati City Hall Ground.

The exhibit was in line with the National Culture and Heritage month with a theme "Heritage: Change and Continuity."

It showcases various artworks, including paintings, sculptures, and mixed media pieces from artists of Prisma de Oriente, namely Marvin Tiberio, Marilyn Silveron, Jing Rabat, Pit Ibañez, Gorjel Llanita, Ara Marundan, Jesus Mejia, Christian Alfuerto, and Mateo Dedal.

The ribbon cutting was attended by City Mayor representative Alan Andrada, City Councilors Tara Rabat Gayta and Jerome Dayanghirang, City Tourism head Dashiel Indelible Jr. and Prisma de Oriente president Jing Cayacay-Rabat.

All of the displayed art works are for sale, allowing visitors to take a piece of Davao Oriental's art scene home with them.

The exhibit aims to showcase the different art and paintings of Davao Oriental's talented artists.

It also provides a platform for these artists to showcase their works and reach a wider audiences.

"If we want to be successful, every

painting, kailangan ihatag ang best and humanon nato na satisfied ta. By heart dapat ang trabaho,” Rabat said as she shared a message to all artists and aspiring artists in the City.

She also revealed some of their future plans, which includes free art workshop to all aspiring artists who wish to hone and learn skills in the field of arts.

The exhibit features a variety of styles and themes, from traditional landscapes to contemporary abstract pieces, which includes works that mirrors the cultures and traditions of the Mandayas.

It is open to the public and admission is free. Visitors are encouraged to come and see the artworks on display before the exhibit closes at the end of the month. (PIA XI/PR from CIO Mati)
