Marinduque LGU hosts DOST's Regional S&T Week Celebration

From May 16 to 18, 2023, the Province of Marinduque became the center of attention for scientific innovations and technological advancements as it hosted the highly anticipated 2023 Mimaropa Regional Science and Technology Week (RSTW) Celebration of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST).

Under the theme "Agham at Teknolohiya: Kabalikat sa Maunlad at Matatag na Kinabukasan" the RSTW celebration aimed to showcase science, technology, and innovation (STI) programs and services, technologies, and products and promote the integration of STI in rural areas, ignite interest in scientific pursuits, and encourage the adoption and commercialization of locally developed technologies.

DOST Mimaropa Regional Director Dr. Ma. Josefina P. Abilay, Regional Director of DOST-Mimaropa, highlighted the significance of the event, emphasizing the transformative power of science in improving lives.

Abilay emphasized that science goes beyond mere facts and experiments.

“It is a force that has the ability to create profound positive changes in communities and individuals” Abilay said.

Moreover, Abilay stressed the indispensability of science, technology, and innovation in addressing the challenges faced by society and achieving long-awaited socioeconomic development. Her words resonated with the name of the event, "Changing Lives through Science," reinforcing the importance of science as a catalyst for progress.

On the other hand, Gov. Presbitero Velasco, Jr. of Marinduque further emphasized the vital role of science, technology, and innovation in the province's development. He acknowledged the numerous benefits that stem from embracing STI and recognized the significance of local events like the RSTW celebration in promoting awareness and encouraging individuals to leverage the advantages of STI for their personal development and overall well-being.

Velasco stressed the importance of technological advancements in agriculture, as they directly contribute to increased productivity and have the potential to alleviate hunger and malnutrition in various areas of Mimaropa.

Over 1,000 attendees, including representatives from local government units (LGUs), micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), and community-based enterprises (CBEs), as well as the academic sector, actively participated in the celebration.  (DOST Mimaropa)
