RDC members sign MOU towards collaboration for inclusive innovation in Mimaropa

The Mimaropa Regional Research, Development, and Innovation Committee (RRDIC) chaired by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Mimaropa gathered Key Actors of the Innovation Ecosystem from the Regional Development Council (RDC) for a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signing that concrete collaboration among government agencies, higher education institutions, and local government units in the region is crucial to achieve sustainable development through the launching of Regional Inclusive Innovation in Mimaropa (RIIM).

The momentous activity took place during the 1st Quarter Full Council Meeting held last March 24, 2023, in Pasay City, Metro Manila.

Dr. Ma. Josefina P. Abilay, Regional Director of DOST Mimaropa gave an opening message that emphasized the importance of RIIM which will serve as a network of key innovation actors from the academe, industry, and government that will collaborate towards the development of market-oriented research and development of outputs that leads to commercialization and increased regional competitiveness.

Likewise, Mimaropa provincial governors including the RDC Chair, mayors of the two cities in Mimaropa, and the Regional Director of Commission on Higher Education (CHED) also expressed their support for inclusive regional innovation through their messages. They highlighted the importance of innovation in addressing the challenges faced by the Mimaropa region and stressed the need for all sectors to work together towards the implementation of the Philippine Development Plan and Sustainable Development Goals.

Aligned towards collaborative innovation in the region, DOST Mimaropa and the Department of Tourism (DOT) Mimaropa also formalized their engagement through another MOU signing for collaborative projects supporting Philippine tourism industry development in the region.

Among the innovative tourism projects promoted through the collaboration include the Halal Research Ecosystem for Development and Innovation Program in Support of the Philippine Tourism Industry (Halal REDI Tourism Program), Artificial Intelligence-based Management for Disaster Risk Evaluation and Monitoring (AIM4DREAM) application, mimaropaventures.ph, and Tourism Live Inventory of Statistics and Arrivals (TourLISTA).

NEDA Mimaropa Regional Director Agustin Mendoza witnessed the MOU signing together with DOST Mimaropa Assistant Regional Director Engr. Jerry B. Mercado. The RDC has also approved resolutions by the Mimaropa RRDIC requesting support on these programs, projects, and activities.

The collaborative partnership is set to bring about innovative solutions that will enhance the region's resilience and economic growth, benefiting not only the present but also the future generations of Mimaropa. (DOST Mimaropa)
