The completion of a 1.76-kilometer road widening project by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) along Puerto Princesa North Road (PPNR) improves travel to Puerto Princesa City, Palawan.
Citing a report from DPWH Mimaropa Regional Director Gerald A. Pacanan, DPWH Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan said that the ₱44.34 million project which involves the construction of two additional road lanes has increased road carrying capacity and improved access to health, education, and economic opportunities.
“This project is part of the national government's effort to reduce traffic congestion that hinders progress in highly progressive areas, especially in the most visited places in the country,” said Bonoan.
Also included in the project’s scope of works is the provision of railings and sidewalk that would encourage safe and efficient travel by foot and the conduct of outdoor activities such as walking and jogging.
Implemented by DPWH Palawan 3rd District Engineering Office, the project is expected to attract more tourists to visit the famous Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park or the Underground River, a UNESCO Heritage Site and one of the New 7 Wonders of the World. (DPWH Mimaropa)
