CAMIGUIN (PIA)--To help address food security concerns among communities, the Department of Agriculture-Regional Field Office (DA-RFO)-10 recently turned over a total of 150 packets of assorted vegetable seeds to the Local Government of Guinsiliban, Camiguin, at the agency compound.
DA-10 Regional Executive Director Carlene C. Collado handed over the agricultural inputs, comprising 90 packets of 5-in-1 Pinakbet seeds and 60 packets of 5-in-1 Sinigang seeds, to Guinsiliban Mayor Helenio N. Abecia.
According to Collado, the DA-10 supports the implementation of the HAPAG (Halina't Magtanim ng Prutas at Gulay) program of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), which empowers barangays to reintroduce agriculture in urban communities.
Abecia said the veggie seeds will be distributed to the seven barangays of Guinsiliban, of which purok presidents will be the ones to allocate the number of packets to the local farmers, where each barangay already has a 200-square-meter land area ready for production.
He added that the said initiative will also be of great help to farmers, not only in achieving food security but also in gaining additional income since the town has just recently opened its new public market.
Further, the provided agri-assistance is funded under the High Value Crops Development Program of the agency. (DA-10/PIA-10/Camiguin)
