BARMM starts crafting public safety guidelines to address local threats, disasters

MARAWI CITY—The technical working group of the Regional Peace and Order Council (RPOC), led by the Ministry of the Interior and Local Government (MILG), has started the formulation of the comprehensive Regional Peace and Order Public Safety (RPOPS) Plan for the year 2024-2026.

The orientation, held on July 13-14 at the Mall of Alnor in Cotabato City aimed to capacitate and orient all technical working group (TWG) members on their roles and functions, planning process, and other plans and frameworks crucial to the development of such a plan.

MILG Minister Lawyer Naguib Sinarimbo emphasized that this is a crucial endeavor and the first of a series of activities to embark on at the regional level.

“The RPOPS plan represents a vital milestone in our collective pursuit of a safety and secure environment for all citizens within our region," he said.

“It is an ambitious undertaking that requires the unwavering dedication and cooperation of all member agencies of the TWG. This plan will serve as a comprehensive framework to address the multifaceted challenges we face in maintaining peace, order, and public safety," he added.

The minister also mentioned a few imminent dangers in the environment and the importance of crafting the plan, stressing that they live in a time when communities encounter diverse threats and risks, ranging from criminal activities, violent extremism, and armed conflicts to natural disasters.

“The formulation of this plan enables us to proactively address these challenges by fostering cooperation, coordination, and a shared understanding among the member of agencies," Sinarimbo said. (BIO/PIA-10 Lanao del Sur)
