PH to host ASEAN WorldSkills Competition in 2025

TAGUIG CITY -- The Philippines, through the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) is set to host the 14th ASEAN WorldSkills Competition in 2025.

TESDA Secretary Suharto T. Mangudadatu emphasized that the hosting, as well as participating in these international competitions, will help improve TESDA’s and the country’s tech-voc system’s readiness in facing the changes being brought about by the Fourth Industrial Revolution. It will likewise enhance the country’s global competitiveness.

“It is with great enthusiasm and a deep sense of responsibility that we step up to the task of organizing this prestigious event. Our team is excited about the opportunity to showcase our city’s hospitality, culture, and capabilities on a global stage,” Secretary Mangudadatu said.

“Participating, and more so hosting of World Skills competitions, is an investment that would result to economic gains for the country through the WorldSkills standards that we should adopt,” he added.

The Philippines, through TESDA’s Deputy Director General for TESD Operations and Head of Delegation Aniceto D. Bertiz III, received the ceremonial ASEAN WorldSkills flag from the Chairman of the WorldSkills Singapore Council Tan Kok Yam during the closing rites of the 13th ASEAN WorldSkills Competition last July 27, 2023.

The Philippines served as the vice-chairperson for the conduct of 13th ASEAN WorldSkills Competition.

The biennial WorldSkills ASEAN Competition gathers youth from around Southeast Asia to showcase their talents and abilities in various skill categories. It aims to promote and upgrade skills standards in the ASEAN region to an international level, as well as to motivate youths to develop their skills to meet international standards.

It can be recalled that the Philippines, through TESDA, has been actively participating in the international skills competition to ensure that the country’s tech-voc training is at par with the international standards.

In the recently concluded 13th ASEAN WorldSkills Competition in Singapore, the Philippine delegation brought home a silver medal and three Medallions for Excellence. (TESDA)
