USTP Oroquieta, Panaon celebrate over 400 grads in joint commencement exercise

MISAMIS OCCIDENTAL (PIA)--An outpouring of joy and a sense of accomplishment filled the Asenso Misamis Occidental Sports and Cultural Center after 191 students from the University of Science and Technology of the Southern Philippines (USTP) Oroquieta and 232 students from the USTP Panaon Campus received their graduation diplomas during its 6th Commencement Exercises, August 12.

In the joint commencement exercises of USTP in Oroquieta and Panaon Campuses for Class 2023 and with the theme "Advancing the Frontiers of Education for Social Progress, Environmental Protection, and Sustainable Development," Gov. Henry S. Oaminal emphasized his priority for education.

Education has been a top priority in his administration’s 5Ms development thrust, which stands for "Misamisnon Magpuyong Malinawon, Malambuon ug Malipayon."

"That is why we have initiated the Aseno Pamilya: One Family, One Professional Program, which will commence this first semester of the school year 2023-2024," he said.

The program intends to provide educational assistance to qualified beneficiaries.

Our aim is to produce professionals for each family in the province that would help alleviate the life of his or her family as one of the means to reduce poverty in the province," Governor Henry Oaminal shared.

He congratulated the 423 graduates from USTP for reaching their goal and for never giving up on their dreams in life.

"Surely, behind this great milestone are people who dreamed with you and supported you all the way until you reached this very moment: your proud parents and guardians," he added.

Governor Henry Oaminal challenged the graduates to always embrace their potential, lead with honors, and leave a legacy that uplifts and empowers generations to come.

"As I reflect on my own journey, I have learned that with determination and perseverance, we can create opportunities, uplift the lives of the people around us, and break the cycle of generational poverty through education," he emphasized.

As a token, Governor Oaminal handed over his graduation cash gift worth P3,000 for all students and P5,000 for honors students.

He also gave P6,000 in cash to the faculty and staff of USTP Oroquieta and Panaon Campus. (MisOcc PGO/PIA-10/Misamis Occidental)
