2 DI-MG members choose peaceful path: A sign of progress in counterterrorism efforts

ILIGAN CITY (PIA)--In a remarkable turn of events, the 2nd Mechanized "Magbalantay" Brigade of the Philippine Army announced the voluntary decision of two prominent members of the notorious Dawlah Islamiya-Maute Group (DI-MG) to abandon violence and embrace a path of peace.
This development represents a significant stride forward in the relentless efforts to combat terrorism, underscoring the effectiveness of the counterterrorism strategies of the Brigade.

After an extensive period of intensive intelligence gathering and strategic operations, the Magbalantay Brigade successfully facilitated the willingness of two DI-MG members of legal age residing in Sitio Dilausan, Taporog, Piagapo, Lanao del Sur along with their firearms: one Cal. 45 with no serial number and one Cal. 9mm with no serial number. Their courageous choice stands as a testament to the power of engagement, dialogue, and understanding in countering extremism.

Alias Abu Talha, who was involved in numerous heinous acts of terror that caused immense suffering and instilled fear in communities, has opted to walk away from the path of destruction. Likewise, alias Abu Anas, an adept strategist responsible for planning and executing multiple attacks, joined Abu Talh in committing to contribute constructively to society.

The voluntary submission of these individuals provides an opportunity for their rehabilitation and reintegration into society while also offering invaluable insights into the inner workings of the DI-MG. Their knowledge can significantly aid the authorities in dismantling terrorist networks, preventing potential attacks, and achieving justice for victims and their families.

With a continued commitment to upholding human rights, fair and transparent legal processes will be ensured, giving them the chance to reform and positively contribute to society.

The Brigade conveys appreciation to its dedicated men and women, the 4th Mechanized Battalion, and its partner agencies, whose unwavering determination and tireless pursuit led to this breakthrough.

The Brigade also extends gratitude to the community members for their ongoing cooperation, support, and trust, as their vigilance played a pivotal role in identifying potential threats and fostering a safer environment for all.

Moreover, the public is urged to stand united against terrorism, as today's events serve as a reminder that the fight against extremist ideologies necessitates a comprehensive approach and collaboration. (2nd Mechanized Brigade/PIA-10/Lanao del Norte)
