Global electronics manufacturer’s Philippine operations in full-blast, will add two new facilities by 2025

GUANGDONG, China -- A Guangdong-based electronics company at the forefront of the global production of headphones (wired and Bluetooth), Bluetooth speakers, drivers, and other related intelligent devices, is now proceeding with the second phase of its expansion project in the Philippines. 


This was shared by Shenzhen Grandsun Chairman and Founder Charles Wu during a meeting with Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Undersecretary and Board of Investments Managing Head Dr. Ceferino Rodolfo, who was in Zhaoqing City to invite the Chinese company’s suppliers to support the supply chain requirements of Grandsun by setting up complementary presence in the Philippines.  


Shenzhen Grandsun was one of the Chinese companies who joined the exclusive roundtable meeting on strategic projects with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. during his state visit to China last January. 


Undersecetary Rodolfo said that the complementarity of Shenzhen Grandsun in the Philippines is a good model for other possible Chinese locators to the Philippines, as it allows a top Chinese OEM and original brand manufacturer  to work  with Filipino talent as they address growing global requirements of their top customers specially from the EU and the US.   


The DTI Undersecretary who was in the city of Nanning to head the Philippines' participation in the 20th China ASEAN Expo, met with Wu in Zhaoqing to personally express to the founder of Shenzhen Grandsun, the DTI-BOI's gratitude for the confidence of the Chinese company in doing business in the Philippines during the pandemic, and lauded its long-term plan of expanding their growing audio equipment manufacturing business in the Philippines along with its Filipino executives who were previously part of the company's growth in the last 26 years in the Chinese headquarters. 


Undersecretary Rodolfo also met with Zhaoqing Mayor Xu Xiaoxiong who lauded the presence of the Philippines in showing its commitment to building relations with his city where Shenzhen Grandsun is also expanding its manufacturing footprint, along with other companies involved in food and beverage, agriculture, mining, new energy vehicle (NEV) and parts manufacturing, and other industries. 


Zhaoqing City is also the existing site of one of the packaging facilities of San Miguel Corporation in China.

Joining the DTI Undersecretary during his visit to Shenzhen Grandsun were  officials of the Philippine Consulate General’s Office in Guangzhou’s Philippine Trade and Investment Center (PTIC Guangzhou). 


During the meeting between the Grandsun top executives and Undersecretary Rodolfo,  Wu confirmed that Grandsun Advanced Electronics (Philippines) Co. Inc. (GAEPCI) , which began its Audio Devices (headphones) production facility at the LIMA facility in Batangas during the pandemic, is now running full blast, and that two new factories in the Philippines will be opened by the end of 2025. 


The two new factories are expected to house additional production facilities that will be tapped for the additional production for the US and European markets of OEM and house-brands of Shenzhen Grandsun's speakers. 


With the expected completion of Shenzhen Grandsun's four audio devices’ (headphones)  production facilities in the Philippines this year, total investments by the Guangdong-based company in the country will amount to more than PHP3 Billion.  Total employees by end 2023 is expected to reach 1000, with the company targetting to provide 8000 jobs in the Philippines by 2028. 


Shenzhen Grandsun was ranked 7th globally on the Global Smart Headphone Invention Patent Ranking, just behind Apple (#5) and Qualcomm (#6), and ahead of of LG (#8) and Huawei (#10).    


The company has also  steadily built a global reputation for exceptional audio, technology and design, winning over 70 international awards since 2015 from the CES Innovation Awards, reddot awards (Germany), Good Design Award (Japan), Chicago Good Design Award and the IF Award in Germany. 


DTI Secretary and BOI Chair Alfredo Pascual, on his part highlighted that “in the last five (5) days alone, we have seen very tangible advancement in at least two (2) investment leads generated during President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s official visits. Aside from the continuous expansion of Grandsun, the President also officially inaugurated last September 22 the Unilever Beauty & Wellbeing and Personal Care factory after it was granted BOI registration in June of this year.” DTI-BOI not only ensures that investment leads generated during the official visits are actually implemented but we further “facilitate their operations so they can go above and beyond their committed economic value-adding activities,” added Secretary Pascual.
