During the visit, Speaker Romualdez expressed his commitment to support the various development projects in Pag-asa Island that aim to benefit both the military units and the local community.

One of the key highlights was the inspection of the newly repaired airstrip on Pag-asa Island. Impressed by its progress, Speaker Romualdez further pledged his support for extending it to accommodate larger aircraft in order to enhance connectivity and accessibility for both military operations and civilian purposes.

In addition to improving air transportation infrastructure, plans are underway for constructing a bigger sheltered port capable of accommodating larger ships from the Philippine Navy. This initiative aims to bolster maritime security efforts while facilitating more efficient resupply operations.

Furthermore, as part of their commitment towards comprehensive development in the Kalayaan Island Group, discussions were held regarding the construction of improvements in other Philippine-held features in the West Philippine Sea (WPS). These initiatives will play a vital role in facilitating easier access between features while ensuring seamless logistical support for various activities.

When asked about the troops’ experience during this visit, Wescom Chief Carlos emphasized that "the defenders of the western frontier are happy with this opportunity as they feel immense support from our national leadership." As such, the delegation's focus remained firmly fixed on supporting the development of Pag-asa Island.

Speaker Romualdez's visit to Pag-asa Island, along with his colleagues in Congress, signifies a strong commitment towards fostering progress and prosperity in the region. With the ongoing efforts to enhance infrastructure and support military operations, this visit serves as a testament to the national government's dedication to ensuring the well-being of both military personnel and local communities in these strategic areas.
