BFAR Mimaropa, Puerto Galera LGU award econocage to fisherfolks of Dulangan

CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro (BFAR) -- In an effort to enhance the livelihoods of local fisherfolk, the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) Mimaropa through the Fisheries Production Support and Services Division and Provincial Fisheries Office of Oriental Mindoro, in collaboration with the Local Government Unit of Puerto Galera, awarded the Sea Grass Fisherfolk Association of Brgy. Dulangan a Complete Package of Econocage on October 6.

The econocage is composed of 4 single stanchions with specifications of 4m x 4m x 4m per stanchion and is said to cost P750,000. Each stanchion would house bangus fingerlings, which normally take 4 to 6 months to harvest.

According to Regional Director Emmanuel H. Asis, the 'econocage' would help in achieving a rollover of their investments and a better yield for additional income for the local fisherfolk.

Also present at the awarding ceremony were 1st District Representative of Oriental Mindoro Cong. Arnan Panaligan, Puerto Galera Mayor Rocky Ilagan, President of the Sea Grass Fisherfolk Association Henry De Leon, Brgy Captain of Dulangan Neopito Babao, Municipal Agriculturist Heidee Aparato, and other members of the Puerto Galera LGU.
