Sorsogon in global spotlight: Scott Kelby Worldwide Photowalk 2023 to capture Sorsogon's essence

SORSOGON CITY, Sorsogon -- The picturesque Sorsogon City is all set to make a grand appearance on the international stage as it participates in the prestigious Scott Kelby Worldwide Photowalk on October 7, 2023. Organized by the esteemed Kurit-Lagting Art Collective, in collaboration with the Concerned Artists of the Philippines (CAP) Bicol Chapter and the Sorsogon Arts Council, this event promises to be a unique and immersive experience for photography enthusiasts and the wider community alike.

The Scott Kelby Worldwide Photowalk is an annual global event that brings together photography enthusiasts, or "Photowalkers," from across the world to explore their cities through the lens of their cameras. This year, Sorsogon City joins the ranks of global participants, poised to showcase its natural beauty, culture, and heritage.

Allan Abrigo, co-founder of the Kurit-Lagting Art Collective and one of the walk leaders, expressed his excitement about the event, saying, "This is a remarkable opportunity for Sorsogon City to shine on the world stage. Through photography, we aim to capture and share the diverse and captivating realities of our city."

Joseph Bausa, regional coordinator of CAP Bicol, underlined the significance of art as a unifying force, stating, "Art has the power to transcend boundaries and connect people from different walks of life. It's not just about capturing images; it's about telling stories, sharing experiences, and celebrating our local culture."

Geri Matthew "Choi" Carretero, the Art Director of Kurit-Lagting, emphasized the theme of the event, "Capturing Realities: Unveiling Sorsogon through the Lens." He said, "Our theme reflects the essence of this Photowalk. Through the art of photography, we unveil the vibrant and multifaceted realities of Sorsogon, revealing its hidden gems and cultural treasures."

Jobeth Jerao, a member of Kurit-Lagting and one of the walk coordinators, encouraged everyone to participate, saying, "This Photowalk is for everyone, whether you're a seasoned photographer or just someone who loves capturing moments with your smartphone. It's about sharing perspectives and showcasing the beauty of our city through your unique lens."

Participants in the Scott Kelby Worldwide Photowalk in Sorsogon City will convene at 1:30 PM on October 7, Saturday.


Prior to the walk, an informative orientation session, led by Allan Abrigo, together with local photojournalist  Manny Ferrer will be held to equip participants with insights and guidance to make the most of their photographic journey through the heart of Sorsogon City.

As the world unites on October 7, 2023, Sorsogon City will proudly stand among the global community of photographers, each capturing moments, stories, and the essence of the city.
