10IB encounter armed group, ensuring peace during election period in MisOcc

JIMENEZ, MISAMIS OCCIDENTAL (PIA)--The 10th Infantry Battalion troops encountered the armed group of the weakened GF Sendong while they were on deployment in the remote barangays of Jimenez and Panaon municipalities, coinciding with the upcoming Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections scheduled for October 30.

Local residents of Barangays Carmen and Matugas Alto had reported the presence of armed NPAs to the authorities, causing concerns within the community.

The armed confrontation occurred at Sitio Aquino, Barangay Carmen, Municipality of Jimenez, Misamis Occidental. Government forces engaged in a firefight with the NPAs, which lasted for approximately 30 minutes before the NPAs dispersed in various directions.

On the government side, there were no casualties among its forces. On the NPA side, one individual was killed in action, and another was captured during the armed encounter. Furthermore, three firearms and personal items were confiscated.

The 10IB troops provided medical care for the captured NPA, offering her food and water and arranging her transportation to the nearest hospital for proper medical attention.

The 10IB remains dedicated to combating insurgency and fostering an environment of peace, security, and development within the province. Such focused military operations underscore the commitment to upholding the rule of law and safeguarding the well-being of the people.

This incident underscored the determination of government forces to ensure peace and security in the province, particularly during the election period.
