OROQUIETA CITY, Misamis Occidental (PIA)-- Oroquieta City recently celebrated their 94th Cabecera and 54th Charter Day Celebration, which ended with a barangay night with the theme Pista sa Nayon.
All 47 barangays in the city put up different booths that describe it as a festival in their area, giving a festive mood to the activity.
“I was overwhelmed sa ilahang preparation, grabe ka nice ug giandaman gayud. Klas-klase na pagkaon ug gimik [I was overwhelmed with their preparation; it is super nice because they have prepared immensely. There were different kinds of food and gimmicks],” Mayor Lemuel Acosta said.
The participation of different barangays in the city is based on the belief that the strength of Oroquieta comes from the barangay. “If one is missing, dili na nato matawag nga Oroquieta, mao ng maghugpong gayud sa kanunay para muasenso ta [we can no longer be called Oroquieta, so we will always come together so we will attain progress],” Acosta said.
To add color to the event, the city government also invited the leaders of the Cabecera Movement and the cityhood of the beloved city.
The city also honored all the past municipal presidents, municipalities, and city mayors of the city because they all contributed a lot to making Oroquieta what it is today.
The Cabecera and Charter Day Celebration is an event basically looking back at yesterday to honor the personnel who have contributed a lot to making the city what it is today and, at the same time, looking forward to where the city will be taken tomorrow. (Oroquieta LGU/PIA-10/Misamis Occidental)
