TUBOD, Lanao del Norte (PIA) -- The provincial government, through the Provincial Engineer's Office (PEO), conducted testing and commissioning of the newly acquired amphibious excavator.
The new equipment is a special tool used for dredging the silted shores along Panguil Bay and the rivers along provincial roads that are clogged or silted from the floods.
"Uban sa bag-o na amphibious excavator kay duha ka six-wheeler dump trucks and kini kay funded under the Supplemental Budget of CY 2023 [Along with the new amphibious excavator, there are two six-wheeler dump trucks, and this is funded under the Supplemental Budget of CY 2023], Provincial Engineer Marietta Borillo said.
The testing and commissioning of the said equipment was held at the Bulod River near the PEO, where the supplier trained the engineers, operators, and mechanics on how to use and maintain the equipment and to also verify the equipment's complete specifications and good performance.
Governor Imelda 'Angging' Quibranza-Dimaporo also witnessed the testing and commissioning of the new equipment.
"Labi na sa hapit nga paghuman sa atong Panguil Bay Bridge, kini nga equipment magamit nato sa paglimpyo sa mga waste nga nagtambak na sa atong mga shores aron ang tubig sa dagat dili na macontaminated ug ang mga isda adunay limpyo na puluy-anan [Especially with the nearing completion of our Panguil Bay Bridge, this equipment can be utilized to clean up the waste that has accumulated on our shores. This ensures that the seawater remains uncontaminated, providing a clean habitat for fish]," she said.
Moreover, Borillo also said that the excavator can be rented out to national line agencies like the Department of Public Works and Highways, the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, and other local government units that also have problems with coastal and river siltation.
With the new equipment intended for coastal dredging, it is envisioned that it will not only prevent flooding but also boost the fishery industry in the province. (PIO LDN/PIA-10/Lanao del Norte)
