MARAWI CITY (PIA) -- The 103rd Infantry (Haribon) Brigade of the 1st Infantry (Tabak) Division, in collaboration with the local police, seized a cache of war materiel from the DI-Maute Group (DI-MG) in Balindong, Lanao del Sur on February 4, 2024.
Acting on intelligence provided by concerned citizens, a joint Army and Police task force launched a raid targeting three suspected hideouts of the DI-MG. Despite the group's escape and evading capture, the operation discovered and confiscated a substantial quantity of weaponry and equipment left behind.
The confiscated items included high-caliber rifles, ammunition, communication devices, and personal effects.
Brig. Gen. Yegor Rey P. Barroquillo Jr., the commander of the 103rd Infantry Brigade, commended the troops for their professionalism and dedication during the operation.
He emphasized the significant disruption inflicted upon the capabilities of the DI-Maute Group as a result of the successful raid.
Accordingly, the recovery of these assets is viewed as a substantial setback for the DI-MG, marking a noteworthy blow to their operations. This success will enhance counterterrorism efforts in the region and contribute to overall security.
Maj. Gen. Gabriel C. Viray III, the commander of the 1st Infantry Division, praised the swift and coordinated efforts of the involved units. He also underscored the vital role played by the security forces in maintaining peace and security in the area.
“The 103rd Infantry Brigade has been at the forefront of the government’s effort to address the security and stop insurgency in the area. I commend the quick response of the different ground units for the successful conduct of operations to ensure the safety and security of our area of responsibility,” he said.
