One DA NorMin commits P185-M agri-fishery projects to Camiguin province

MAMBAJAO, Camiguin (PIA) -- Department of Agriculture-Regional Field Office (DA)-10 Regional Executive Director Carlene C. Collado handed over a Certificate of Commitment to Camiguin Gov. Xavier Jesus D. Romualdo for the implementation of P185 million worth of agri-fishery projects on February 20, here.

The committed projects will be implemented this year by the One DA line agencies and bureaus, namely: the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR)-10, National Irrigation Administration (NIA)-10 and the Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA)-10.

According to Collado, for FY 2024, DA-10 alone has committed P175 million worth of agricultural development projects under its Rice, Corn, Livestock, High Value Crops Development and organic agriculture programs; as well as its special programs such as farm-to-market road development, Special Area for Agricultural Development and mainstreaming of climate-resilient agriculture for Camiguin province.

BFAR-10 through its fishery development and fishery extension programs has appropriated P5 million funds for its fishery projects in the province.

NIA-10 and PCA-10, on their part, committed P3 million and P2 million worth of projects, respectively, for the restoration of the communal irrigation canal and sustainable planting/replanting of local coconut cultivars in Camiguin.

During the handover ceremony, Collado and Romualdo also signed a Memorandum of Agreement for the provision of office space to be utilized as DA-10’s Provincial Operations Center (POC) in the province, setting forth the formal operation of POC-Camiguin starting this month.

“With the operationalization of our POC in Camiguin, we will be able to further speed up our project implementation in the province. This will also greatly help us in expediting our field monitoring activities so that we can timely deploy necessary agricultural services and interventions to the farmers in Camiguin," Collado said.
