OCD officials visit Albay, Batangas amid volcanoes unrest, assures support to affected LGUs

QUEZON CITY -- The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) sends various forms of assistance to the affected residents of Mayon Volcano’s unrest.

As of today, OCD has distributed a total of P9.2 Million worth of tarpaulin rolls, N95 face masks, family food packs, hygiene kits, pelican cases, and a portable water filtration unit to the affected areas.

“We will continue to provide necessary support from the national government to the affected local government units. Our coordination with OCD regional offices is continuous as we closely monitor the situation,” said Civil Defense Administrator and National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) Executive Director, Undersecretary Ariel Nepomuceno.

“We have reminded our counterparts and the LGUs to implement precautionary measures aggressively to ensure the safety of the residents. We also ask the residents to always follow authorities’ warnings and advisories,” he added.

The agency also sent a water filtration truck to Albay and is set to provide 3,200 rice sacks amounting to P4 Million for the affected communities.

Mayon Volcano, which is still under Alert Level 3 since June 8, began to spew lava on Sunday night, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS).

PHIVOLCS reminds the communities of possible hazards such as rock falls or landslides, ballistic fragments, lava flows, pyroclastic density currents, moderate-sized explosions, and lahars during heavy or prolonged rainfall.

Meanwhile, OCD officials on Saturday visited the provinces of Batangas and Albay amid the unrest of Taal and Mayon to coordinate preparations and response activities with affected LGUs .

On June 9, Albay province was placed under a state of calamity. As of writing, the increasing activity of Mayon has caused the evacuation of 13,811 individuals.


To date, around P25.6 Million cost of assistance from the government, private organizations, and non-governmental organizations has been provided to the affected areas.

Various government agencies have already prepositioned their respective resources in preparation for different scenarios that may happen amid the Mayon’s intensified unrest.

OCD also monitors Taal volcano that is currently under Alert Level 1. (NDRRMC)
