MALAYBALAY CITY (PIA)—The Delta variant of COVID-19 is now recorded in Malaybalay City.
This was confirmed by City Health Officer Dr. Dennis Sangalang in an interview over DXMB-RMN radio station on Thursday, August 19.
The Delta-infected person, according to Sangalang, is a resident of Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental, who visited her kins in Barangay San Martin here on July 20.
He explained that the victim showed no COVID symptoms when she had her RT-PCR or swab test. But because the city government requires all “visitors” to undergo COVID test, she was swabbed straightway.
“She tested positive of COVID-19 and was isolated in one of the facilities here. She fully recovered on August 1—after staying in quarantine for 14 days. However, when the Genome Sequencing Test result was released recently, it showed that the case was a Delta variant,” Sanggalang said.
With this COVID’s maze, he urged the public to continue taking extreme caution against coronavirus, saying it [COVID-19] continues its strength in various strains.
Meanwhile, Sangalang disclosed that the Delta-positive individual had already her reswabbing, including her 11 immediate family members.
“Our contact-tracing team is now intensifying the ‘2nd and 3rd generation’ tracing to make sure that those who were in contact with the Delta virus carrier are self-monitoring and have not developed symptoms,” he said.
He also explained that the Delta variant is more aggressive and can severely infect those who have not been vaccinated against COVID-19, especially the senior citizens and persons with chronic disease. (BGE/PIA-Bukidnon)
