DUMAGUETE CITY, Negros Oriental, Aug. 26 (PIA) -- The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Region 7 has named Chef Tobz Cakes of Negros Oriental as this year’s Small Enterprise Technology Upgrading Program (SETUP) Praise Awardee in Central Visayas.
The recognition ceremony was held via Zoom during the opening of the National Science and Technology Week (NSTW) celebration on Aug. 25 in the region.
Chef Tobz Cakes and Pastries produces artisanal cakes, a recipient of SETUP through DOST Negros Oriental.
DOST Provincial Science and Technology Director Atty. Gilbert Arbon said after receiving technology upgrading assistance from DOST-SETUP, Tobz Cakes has competed against more established rivals in Dumaguete City.
The firm has established a modern commissary with high production capacity and expanded its workforce from nine to currently 21 personnel.
Arbon said the firm obtained a license to operate from the Food and Drug Administration within a year and trained the personnel on proper food safety practices.
It has now opened a market outlet in the shopping district in the city.
“Nagapasalamat mi sa DOST-7 SETUP Program kay dako kaayo siya og gikatabang sa amoa nga production, sa marketing namo, ug sa among mga halin. Kay ug dili tungod nila, dili mapaspas ang among production. Kay paspas ang among production, maka-serve mi ug daghan sa among mga customers (We are grateful to DOST-7 SETUP program for the big help in our production, marketing, and in our sales. Without them, the production will not be fast. The more we can produce, more supplies we can serve to customers)," said Tirso Tubog, proprietor of Chef Tobz Cakes and Pastries.
The firm received a plaque of recognition and P5,000 cash prize from DOST.
SETUP Praise Award for MSME was formerly known as Search for Best SETUP Adoptor.
DOST-SETUP is a nationwide strategy encouraging and assisting micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to adopt technological innovations to improve their products, services, operations and increase their productivity and competitiveness. (JCT/PIA7 Negros Oriental with reports from DOST)
