Bohol logs average of 2 COVID-19 deaths daily in August

TAGBILARAN CITY, Bohol, Aug. 28 (PIA) -- Since July 31, over two people die everyday of COVID-19 in Bohol.

Seventy-five percent of those who died of the disease were unvaccinated and 25% have been vaccinated with the first dose but died before they could get the second dose.

None of those who were fully vaccinated (or some 14 days have lapsed since their second jab) died, according to a report by the Bohol Inter-Agency task Force on the Management of Emerging Infectious Disease (BIATF).

With the death count attributed to the virus that has caused a global pandemic reaching 199 in July 31, Bohol last year logged an average of 15 deaths in a month since the health authorities recorded the first COVID-19 death on May 26, 2020 to a septuagenarian from Panggangan, Calape town.

However, from July 31 to Aug. 25, COVID-19 deaths have reached the 257 mark based on the COVID tracker shared by BIATF on Aug. 25.

While the deaths were few and far in between in the first eight months or until January 2021, the figures soon picked up pace beginning March 2021.

Epidemiologists have insisted that apart from strictly maintaining the minimum public health protocols, attaining herd immunity through vaccination is one of the most proven ways to defeat a pandemic.

As of Friday last week, the Provincial Vaccination Operation Center shared that the initial target is to vaccinate the 315,468 individuals who have been prioritized for most immediate protection.

Of the total, Bohol vaccination teams have fully vaccinated 137,250 Boholanos and partially vaccinated 115,133.

A total of 252,383 Boholanos have either been fully or partially vaccinated by Sinovac, AstraZeneca, Pfizer, Sputnik V, Moderna or Johnson and Johnsons.

As of last week, vaccinations continue especially for tourism frontline workers and workers in the essential sectors. (RAHC/PIA7 Bohol)

STILL IN THE PRIORITY GROUPS A1-A4. Bohol vaccination teams continue the vaccination drive until the vaccines last. (PIA Bohol)
