DUMAGUETE CITY, Negros Oriental, Dec. 22 (PIA) -- Department of Education (DepEd) Sec. Leonor Magtolis Briones led the inauguration of three units of three-storey 12-classroom school buildings for the Dumaguete City National High School on Dec. 16.
Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo lauded Briones for approving the project for 36 new classrooms which will help address the classroom shortage here due to the rising student population.
In the same event, DepEd and local officials also held the ground breaking ceremony of the Deped RO-7 Regional Sub-office, which will be built to serve the needs of teachers and learners in Dumaguete City and Negros Oriental.
Dumaguete City National High School also launched the first Gabaldon Heritage Week to give importance to the conservation of Gabaldon buildings in the city.
Meanwhile, utility workers and personnel from the Dumaguete Philippine National Police, City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, and the City Engineer’s Office have conducted clearing of debris and subsequent restoration of electricity in the classrooms at the Dumaguete City National High School (DCNHS).
DCNHS Principal Alden Rabina said strong winds brought by Typhoon Odette toppled the trees and lamp posts inside the campus which caused a power outage in some of the school buildings. (JCT/PIA7 Negros Oriental)
