DUMAGUETE CITY, Negros Oriental, Jan. 13 (PIA) -- Dumaguete City is set to hold this year’s mass wedding or Kasalan ng Bayan on Feb. 14, Valentine’s Day, for lifelong partners who had been living together for years without officially getting married.
Local Civil Registrar Carlo Cual said that in order to join the mass wedding, interested couples, including those who are not living in cohabitation and foreigners and residents outside of Dumaguete, must submit all documents on or before Feb. 4.
The couple-applicants will not be required to pay local fees to obtain the marriage license or certificate for couples who will join the Kasalan ng Bayan.
The ceremony will be officiated by Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo.
The 30 barangay captains in the city are requested to endorse and help register interested couples to join the wedding as a means to legitimize their union.
The Local Civil Registrar (LCR) has set the following requirements:
- Live-in couples: Birth certificates; Certificate of No Marriage to be obtained from the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA); affidavit of cohabitation to be obtained from the Public Attorney’s Office; and Valid IDs.
- Non-cohabiting parties: Birth certificates; Valid IDs; Advice of parents for persons 21-24 years old; Consent of parents for persons 18-20 years old; Pre-marriage and family planning seminar at the POPCOM Office; Certificate of No Marriage from PSA.
- For foreigners: Birth certificates; Valid identification card of the contracting parties; Advice of parents for persons 21-24 year old; Consent of parents for persons 18-20 years old; Pre-marriage and family planning seminar at POPCOM Office; Certificate of No Marriage from PSA; and marriage license and certificate of legal capacity to be obtained from the Embassy of country of origin based in the Philippines.
However, if widowed or widower, the additional requisite includes death certificate of the spouse, and if divorced, original copy of divorce decree.
Once all required documents are submitted to LCR, applicants are advised to bring along the sponsors so they could already sign the marriage license before the date of the wedding. (JCT/PIA7 Negros Oriental with reports from CPIO)
